The open brief invited experimentation with animation techniques to communicate an idea, feeling or personal meaning through narrative. A product advertisement became the format for applying these skills, exploring how illustration and live-action movement could work together to tell a playful story.

“Colours that create Magic” presents creativity as a playful break from everyday routine, aimed at young working adults with limited time for hobbies. Drawn instruments, game elements and expressive marks transform familiar activities into imagined scenes, connecting the brush pens with enjoyment and creative possibility.

Mood boards and paper storyboards shaped the sequence before rotoscoping and drawn animation were developed in Procreate and composited in After Effects. Stock footage provided the live-action base; plain backgrounds, contrasting illustrations and colours drawn from the pens gave the film a consistent visual language.

Shortlisted and recognised at Srishti Collective, the film was featured in the wider campus showcase. An illustrated poster and projection display extended the animation beyond a standalone film, bringing “Colours that create Magic” into a connected presentation across motion, print and physical space.
